Music As A Cure

See this content in the original post

In hard times people often turn attention to things that can release stress and bring pleasure. Some people prefer alcohol while others like to dance. I want to share one more way to do that: with music.

Be A Listener

The most trivial yet the most convenient and easiest way is just listening to music at home. I know, it sounds weird and a bit stupid, but many people do that and can confirm that it works! So, get a pair of good headphones or speakers and play the music you like or the music that can relieve you from stress.

Other typical events where you can listen to good music are concerts. There are many concerts in pretty much every big city. Feel free to grab a ticket to the concert of your favorite band and get ready for the show! You may also intentionally visit a concert by a musician you never heard before to listen to something new and refreshing. Perhaps it can give a boost in resolving your internal issues.

There is one more unusual place where you can listen to music: it is a street! You can easily find street musicians in almost every big city and listen to their music. They usually do a pretty good show with a minimum set of instruments and play good music.

Play The Music

Playing music is the next step in the healing process. If you can play some musical instrument, it is a great way to switch the context from your regular life and think about something else. Playing music also washes away your current anxiety as it requires you to switch off your brain from typical activities to the music.

You may start by playing music alone. If you’ve never played it, you may pick the instrument you like, find a teacher, and start playing! The first steps may not be easy, but you will get there eventually and start getting pleasure from what you are doing.

If you have friends who are musicians, then you may play music together. It is a different experience! You will feel like a part of the team, so you can relax and feel better even master. The additional benefit of playing in a band is that you can impress your friends with recordings of your band and photos and videos from the studio.

The Best Cure

People are different, so if something helps one person, it does not mean it will work for everybody. The same with music: somebody likes to listen, some prefer to play, some likes both. Feel free to experiment and try different approaches. You may experiment with music styles, time of the day when you listen or play, people you listen or play with, the place, the atmosphere, etc. Just find what suits you best and gives you the pleasure.

Later you may try to change or adjust something in the music in your life. It is natural as new challenges may need new solutions. Do what you can, share the experience with your friends and colleagues, and find the music that is the best cure for you!
